Of all the GS1 symbols, the EAN 13 symbol is the most widely used. It's the emblem that appears on the majority of things sold at a retail store. Each of the 13 digit GTIN types, such as fixed weight products, variable weight products, coupons, books, serial publications, and so on, is printed using EAN 13. The GTIN can begin with any of the prefixes listed below: 06, 07, or the Global Company Prefix (GCP) assigned to your company for bar coding purposes.

  • Light Margin: Left 3.63 mm, Right 2.31mm 
  • Min Bar Height: 22.85 mm at nominal size
  • Target Location: Rear lower right quadrant

 

The X dimension, also known as module width, is the width of the narrowest bar or space when magnified to 100%. The other bars or spaces are two, three, or four times the X measurement in width.

The magnification factor is the difference in size between the nominal and actual dimensions of the bar code symbol.
